Today I wanted to discuss Ms. Kay, a case study and kind of a testimonial of understanding exactly what we did to help her spinal stenosis.
We have many patients in a similar situation, but this is a great example of how the care and treatment can benefit somebody in a very short amount of time.
Ms. Kay had issues of activities of:
- Daily living
- Cleaning around the house
- Yard work
- Difficulty walking
Our treatment plan with her consisted of spinal manipulation, or spinal adjustments of her cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Most of her condition is going to be associated with her lumbar spine.
An at-home exercise program was developed for her, and we’ve made significant gains with this program which is demonstrated in the video above.
Additionally, we did spinal decompression therapy of her lumbar spine. Click here to watch one of our other videos to understand how the spinal decompression therapy works in much more detail.
Home Exercise Treatment Plan
We started with her home exercise plan by have her laying down on her back and doing some core leg exercises. The reason why we start on her back is because we didn’t want her on her knees to do any exercises while she was on her knees.
So we had to develop a plan that addressed the problematic area of her low back without her doing any floor exercises or being on her knees.
The table in the video represents her bed at home. When we first started she was not able to raise her legs or knees to her chest area. So we started out with doing one leg at at time.
As Ms. K demos by raising one leg/knee at a time, you can see that she came to a 90 degree angle. That was where we started! We were unable to bring both legs up at the same time. Now she’s able to demonstrate bringing both legs up at the same time, and then back down. Ms. K does this now 30 plus times a day every morning.
At first, she started with one leg at a time, and we started with a goal of one to two. Then we went to five, and seven, and 10, and now she’s up to 30 plus a day. The strengthening of her core and her spine and allowing her to live her life in a much more enjoyable manner.
